When clients first reach out to Mile High Mixologists, they often picture the visible part of what we do: professional bartenders serving drinks at their event for a few hours. What they don't see is the extensive work that happens before we ever set up the bar.
The reality is that exceptional event bartending requires the same level of preparation as running a top cocktail bar—and that preparation is what separates a mediocre bar experience from a memorable one.
The Logistics Behind the Bar
Before your event begins, our team is coordinating dozens of moving parts. We're sourcing ice in the quantities needed for your guest count. We're purchasing fresh garnishes—not the day before, but the morning of, so everything is crisp and vibrant. We're coordinating with liquor stores to ensure we have the exact spirits, wines, and beers your package requires, in the right quantities to avoid both shortages and waste.
This logistics work isn't glamorous, but it's essential. Running out of ice at hour two or discovering a key ingredient is missing can derail an entire event. Our job is to anticipate every need so nothing goes wrong on your big day.
The Prep Work That Makes Great Cocktails
The most time-intensive part of our process—and the most important—is prep. Any respected cocktail bar employs prep cooks or bar backs whose full-time job is preparing ingredients. They're juicing citrus, making syrups from scratch, creating infusions, and batching components so bartenders can work quickly during service.
At Mile High Mixologists, we bring that same standard to mobile bartending.
Fresh Juices
We juice lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruits fresh for every event. Bottled citrus juice tastes flat and artificial—fresh juice is bright, tart, and makes every cocktail better. Depending on your guest count and cocktail menu, we might juice 50+ pieces of fruit before your event even starts.
House-Made Syrups
Our signature cocktails rely on syrups we make in-house: hibiscus mint, smoked brown sugar, ginger, blackberry lavender, salted cucumber, and more. Each syrup requires specific ratios, cook times, and cooling periods. Some need to steep overnight. This isn't something you can rush the day of—it's planned days in advance.
Infusions and Specialty Ingredients
Certain cocktails require infused spirits, muddled herbs, or specialty garnishes that need advance preparation. We're smoking brown sugar, infusing vodka with cucumber, prepping fresh herb bouquets, and creating garnishes that look as good as they taste.
Batching for Efficiency
For large events (100+ guests), we often batch cocktail components in advance using our draft cocktail system. This allows us to serve complex cocktails quickly without sacrificing quality. But batching isn't as simple as mixing ingredients in a bucket—it requires precise measurements, dilution calculations, and quality testing to ensure the final pour tastes exactly as intended.
Why This Matters for Your Event
The difference between a bartender who shows up with bottles and a bartender who shows up with a fully prepped bar is the difference between drinks that taste fine and drinks your guests remember.
When we use fresh-squeezed lime juice instead of bottled, house-made ginger syrup instead of store-bought, and hand-cut garnishes instead of whatever's convenient, people notice. They might not know exactly why the margarita tastes better or why the old fashioned is more balanced, but they taste the difference.
That's what we mean when we say we bring cocktail bar quality to events. It's not marketing—it's hours of prep work you'll never see, but you'll absolutely taste.
We Handle It All
Most event bartending services show up, pour drinks, and leave. We show up with everything already prepped to cocktail bar standards because we believe your event deserves the same care and quality as Denver's best bars.
You shouldn't have to compromise on cocktail quality just because you're hosting an event instead of visiting a bar. That's the entire premise of Mile High Mixologists.
